Sunrise. Good Morning Song.

October 19, 2022 Marce Merrell

Sunrise.

I’ve been singing a good morning song to the sunrise.

I heard Wendayho in a yoga class years ago. The first track on the Planet Love album (2004).

The sound of the music reminds me of a peaceful chant. The words are easy to remember. When I sing them, my body relaxes.

Wendayho has calmed me through paddling big waves and wind on lakes, it’s comforted me as I walked Athena and felt sad about the death of my granddaughter’s bunnies.

I know the feeling of the words, even if I don’t know the translation of them.

Some internet sources say Wendayho is Cherokee, others say it is not. Some say it is a morning song. I sing it in the morning, and, all day long– whenever it comes to me.

I remember asking the Yoga instructor the name of the album- she had a CD playing. (Wow, seems so long ago.) The artists creating the work: Maneesh De Moor and Sudha. I played the album on repeat for weeks at a time during a stressful period in my life. It seems to have sunk, stuck inside me.

I wonder what songs sink into other people’s ears? What songs bring a feeling of calm or alertness?
